"It’s time to say good-bye to Kimberly Van Meter’s much beloved EMMETT’S MILL series.  I’ve so enjoyed coming to know this charming town with all its unique characters.  There’s a real sense of ‘family’ that resonates throughout all the EMMETT’S MILL stories and with TRUSTING THE BODYGUARD Ms. Van Meter not only reinforces that emotion but seems to bring it to life.  The emotional connection between Marissa and Archer is obvious right from the beginning but they have many issues to overcome if there’s any hope of them sharing a ‘happily-ever-after.’  This story is fast paced, action packed, captivating and full of unforgettable characters who’ll live on in your memory long after you’ve read the final page.  What I particularly loved about this book is how much I came to care about the characters and anxiously turned each page praying that nothing bad would happen to any of them – with a few exceptions of course. TRUSTING THE BODYGUARD is more intense than other Kimberly Van Meter books I’ve read but definitely no less satisfying. When Renee Dolling, their mother, shows up, claiming that her husband ran off with the girls while she was in rehab, John's isn't sure if she's a mother who abandoned her children or one who simply made a mistake. When John gets temporary custody, Renee must prove she's a fit parent. In Van Meter's well-written, emotional story, Renee's angst over losing her children is understandable, as is John's anger. John is particularly likable. The author obviously knows there's almost nothing more attractive than a man who loves children!

It takes a special writing talent to create a less than stellar character, like Renee, a drunken mother that abandons her children to their unstable father, and then develop the character into a person that readers empathize with and will ultimately applaud. Kimberly Van Meter has that talent and more as she presents the brutality of child abuse in this heart wrenching story, KIDS ON THE DOORSTEP. The reality is, that the mistakes of parents often take a debilitating toll on children. Ms. Van Meter demonstrates, however, that these mistakes may be corrected with time and love. Kimberly Van Meter pens a poignant tale.  She completely immerses you in the lives of a family torn apart by horrible circumstances.  It is endearing to watch a man who has no ties to the young children left at his door fight for them, and make sure that they receive what they deserve.  It is also encouraging to see a mother take charge of her life, correct her mistakes, and try to reconcile with the children who were unfairly betrayed by their father.  John Murphy and Renee Dolling are not easily dissuaded from their goals, and both of them seem to have the children’s interests at heart.  It is fun to see these two determined people go head to head and in the process lose their heart to the other.  KIDS ON THE DOORSTEP is an enjoyable romance filled with memorable characters that will have you longing to return to the town of Emmett’s Mill.
